At your desk / A working record
The edition workbench.
A small checklist for a complicated handoff. Mark a check only after you have its evidence. A row left open is often the most useful part of the record.
The text / Every format
Can every contributor identify the same source file and revision?
Record the revision, owner and unresolved queries outside this checklist.
Read the working guide ↗The text / Every format
Have text, images, quotations and contributor permissions been checked for this edition?
Keep any territorial, format or term limits with the permission itself.

Do the names, edition information and credits match the approved records?
A checked box is not legal clearance. Escalate an unresolved rights question.

Do identifiers, title, contributors, description and format match the delivered product?
Compare the file, cover and outgoing metadata, not only the spreadsheet.
Read the working guide ↗The reading route / epub & kindle
Does sequential reading include every intended section once and in the intended order?
Check the spine, front matter and back matter against the approved contents.

Can a reader enter chapters, reach a note and return to the calling passage?
Check labelled destinations with keyboard and relevant reading-system controls.

Have structure, reading order, descriptions and assistive-technology behaviour been reviewed?
Validation and visual preview are evidence, not accessibility certification.
Read the working guide ↗The delivery candidate / epub
Has the final candidate been run through an appropriate EPUB validator and each reported issue resolved or documented?
Keep the file identifier, validator version, report and disposition together.

Have relevant sizes, orientations, images, tables and links been checked after conversion?
Name the views actually checked. A simulator is not a physical-device test.

Have page sequence, trim, binding, margins, cover placement and legibility been inspected on the intended proof?
A PDF review cannot establish the feel or manufacture of a printed copy.
Read the working guide ↗The handoff / Every format
Is the checked file the one being handed off, with an owner for any later changes?
Save the package and checks. Recheck affected areas after a correction.

Can a reader identify the edition and report a specific problem?
Decide who receives a correction and how it reaches affected formats.

This is Chapter Ledger’s editorial checklist, prepared 19 September 2026, not a distributor’s acceptance test. The selected format determines which rows apply; the progress count is only completed rows divided by applicable rows. It does not measure quality or readiness for publication.
The scope is a reflowable text-led EPUB, Kindle edition or conventional print book. Fixed-layout, interactive, audio, specialist educational and complex illustrated editions need additional checks. The linked guides cite the relevant source documentation. No file is uploaded, validated or submitted by this page.
Saved checks are separate for each format, but not for separate books. Export a record and clear it before using the tool for a different edition. Browser storage can be cleared or unavailable; keep the substantive evidence in your own project records.
